The Noosa Yacht & Rowing Club is holding a fundraising sportsman’s lunch on Thursday April 19.  The fundraiser is to support Sailability Noosa. What is Sailability Noosa you may ask? Sailability Noosa provides a sailing opportunity for people of all ages and with all types and levels of disability in order to bring joy, encourage development and the pursuit of new skills, and provide a broader life experience. Our clients come from various Disability Service Organisations or as private individuals, and they are normally accompanied by a carer who has responsibility for their welfare ashore. The program also relies on community minded volunteers who assist with the organisation and care of the clients while they prepare for their activity.

The Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club started using its fleet and facilities to introduce sailing to people with a disability in 2010.  Typically, we provide ten staff, two or three rescue boats and two beach wheel chairs, and work closely with the volunteers and carers to ensure the safe movement of the sailors between beach and boat.  Once on board, they are accompanied by a qualified instructor, or if able to sail solo, kept under close watch from the rescue boats.  The beach in front of the club rings with the shouts and cheers of happy participants as they wait their turn to feel the wind in their sails and the salt on their skin.

  • In 2017, our program catered to an average 22 participants per week for 20 weeks with a peak of 25 sailors on the busiest day equating to 450 sailing adventures per season to those who otherwise may never get this opportunity, ever.
  • In 2018 Sailability will operate every Thursday for 25 weeks from March to September (except School Holidays) and the Season will finish with a Regatta and Presentation of Trophies and Awards on 13 September. This season could see around 550 sailing adventures provided by the club to those less fortunate than ourselves.

The Noosa Yacht & Rowing Club is proud to be able to offer this program to the community however it does come with a sizeable financial investment and this is where your support can greatly assist the club in offsetting a proportion of this.  The attachment will give you the details of the sportsman’s lunch fundraiser that will go a long way to keeping this very worthy cause operational. We are seeking your support through purchasing of tickets for this event, through a donation of an item for auctioning on the day, or even both.

I can assure you of a fabulous day with “Thomo” as the guest speaker, he does not hold back and is very entertaining. Combined with the club’s hospitality, a premium food and beverage offering on the day and all while overlooking the beautiful Noosa River you are assured of an awesome day out whilst supporting a very worthy cause.

Feel free to contact the club with any questions, tickets sales, auction items or with anything else you may be able to assist with.
